Martos has been my ‘home base’ for much of the summer. It’s a town of 25,000 people, in the Jaén province of Andalucía. For the most part, the streets and houses are spotlessly clean, as the locals mop the walls, doors and window frames almost daily. But the buildings I love the most are the old arab houses, which are hundreds of years old and still standing strong.
